So we could eventually have as mainline heritage operators (in ASCII
alphabetical order) ...
3801 Limited
ARHS ACT
LVR
Rail Motor Society
Rothbury
RTM
SETS (if they still exist)
(anyone else I missed???)
Gasp - Since when have Rothbury been a 'heritage' operator?
... plus non mainline heritage operators ...
Richmond Vale (oh for a connection at Weston!!!)
They're a 'mainline' operator in my book - you just have to change your view
of what constitutes a mainline. After all the SMR's line to Cessnock still
exists and gets regular traffic (dunno who runs the trains - probably
PathNath), and it's on the same par as the feeder lines which ran into
Richmond Vale's site.
Timber Town
Zig Zag
The narrow industrial gauge mob at Albion Park (I forgot their actual
name)
Illawarra Light Railway Society I think.
... and the "hopefuls" ...
TRAKS
Who are?
(anyone else I missed???)
Yeah H.E.T.S
Another organisation which few people know anything about.

One day we might see railway operators do things like they are done in the
US or UK where rail heritage is taken far more seriously.

Craig.

The definition of "mainline" is rubbery but there is no longer a physical
connection between the Richmond Vale tracks and the nearest "mainline" at
Weston - yes, PacNat does run coal trains down the former Cessnock line.
Likewise, the connecting points between the Nth Coast Line at Glenreagh and
the track leased to Glenreagh Mountain Railway have also been removed - to
me this means that they are also not a "mainline" operator.

TRAKS
Who are?
They are a group hoping to rebuild part of the old line between Richmond and
Kurrajong - they have been given part of the original right of way up at the
Kurrajong end but no track, infrastructure, rolling stock or locos.

Now whether this plethora of operating (??) heritage groups is ultimately a
good or a bad thing I do not know. Will too many operators mean that none of
them will get a survivable share of the available tourist and rail
enthusiast market ? The most common criticism I hear of RTM is that they
start too many projects with too little money with the inevitable results.

Will too few operators mean lack of variety and too much of "the same old,
the same old". This is a criticism I often hear of 3801 Ltd.

Have a nice day ...
